Mail Online surges past 100m browsers in August

By Press Gazette

Mail Online reported more than 100m unique monthly browsers for the first time in August, according to the latest online traffic figures from ABC.

During the month that saw both the Olympic and Paralympic Games held in London, the website's traffic surged to 105,720,000 unique browsers – up 41.1 per cent year on year and 7.93 per cent month on month.

Every national newspaper reported increased traffic last month. The Guardian's daily figures were up 24.8 per cent year and year 10.5 per cent month on month to 3,816,464.

A Guardian News & Media spokesperson said: “It’s fantastic that we recorded the highest ever number of monthly page impressions last month. Reaching this milestone is testament to our brilliant coverage of the London 2012 Games during August, with Olympic content alone being viewed by more than 11 million unique browsers across the month."

The Telegraph website saw the number of monthly browser rise by 31.7 year on year to per cent to 53,915,491, while daily browsers were up 27.9 per cent to 2,750,404.

Daily Telegraph editor Tony Gallagher said: “These record audience figures – both global and UK – highlight the Telegraph’s Olympic success.  The August ABC figures also showed that The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph were both up month-on-month thanks to agenda-leading editorial, standalone 'London 2012' supplements during The Games and a hugely successful street selling campaign which continued into the Paralympics.”
