Johnston Press has announced the departure of Andrew Richardson, the managing director of its Scottish newspaper division.
In December Johnston Press chief operating officer Danny Cammiade left the company after seven years as a senior executive.
Richardson has been MD of Scotsman Publications for the last two and a half years and was made boss of all its Scottish newspaper titles in February 2012 following the departure of divisional managing director for Scotland and the North-East of England Michael Johnston, and former Johnston Falkirk MD Richard Bell.
The latest reshuffle at Johnston sees Richardson replaced by North East MD Stuart Birkett, who in turn has been replaced by Stephen Plews, MD of the Scarborough and East Yorkshire titles.
Plews’ role has been merged with that of Helen Oldham, managing director of Johnston’s West Yorkshire operation.
Highfield told staff this morning: “We have today informed the Scotland Publishing Unit staff that Andrew Richardson is leaving his position as managing director for the Scotland Publishing Unit.
“Andrew has been within the company for over 5 years and has held the role of MD for the last 2 and half years. We wish Andrew well for the future and thank him for his significant contribution to the business.”
Commenting on the news yesterday – before the official announcement was made – former Scotsman editor John Mclellan, who left the paper in April, tweeted:
Man who fired me has been fired. What goes around, etc

It seems staff only learnt the news from my tweet. Sorry I mucked up tomorrow's announcement. That's social media for you.
