i was only national press title to grow sales year on year in October

By Dominic Ponsford

The Independent's cut-price stablemate i was the fastest growing national newspaper in October, increasing its headline circulation by 44 per cent year on year to 304,691.

Some 65,000 copies were bulk distributed. But just looking at actively-paid-for sales, it was still up 22.1 per cent year on year.

Meanwhile the full price Independent (costing £1.20 versus 20p for i) sold just over 60,000 copies a day in September.

After i, The Times was the best performing daily title year on year with headline ABC sales down 3.2 per cent to 403,770. But it was helped by a decision to include 17,224 corporate subscriptions in its bulks figure.

Looking at the Sundays, The Sunday Telegraph was the best performing title – dropping 5.7 per cent year on year.
