Journalists at Trinity Mirror‘s Liverpool Daily Post and Liverpool Echo scooped four awards at the 17th annual North West Newspaper Awards.
The Liverpool Daily Post was awarded the gong for best daily newspaper website of the year – one of two new online categories added this year – and the paper’s David Higgerson won news reporter of the year. Photographer of the year went to Colin Lane, who works for both titles, and the Echo’s Paddy Shennan picked up feature writer of the year.
Daily Newspaper of the year went to Newsquest‘s Bolton News, and the weekly newspaper award went to the Cumberland News, which picked up a second award when the paper’s Amanda Little, who also writes for the News & Star, scooped sports reporter of the year.
Sally Henfield of the Lancashire Telegraph was named young journalist of the year, and the Warrington Guardian picked up an award for weekly newspaper website of the year.
The awards were announced at a lunch presented by Fiona Armstrong, of Border Television’s Lookaround news magazine programme, at the Sellafield Centre.
Richard Catlow of the Society of Editors’ North West region, who chaired the judging, said: ‘Not only did this year represent the highest entry in terms of numbers, but also in quality.”
