Premiership in search of top shots

By Press Gazette

Football photographers will be able to compete for two new awards, Football Photographer of the Season and Shot of the Season.

Premiership sponsor Barclaycard has launched annual awards aiming to recognise the importance of photography within football.

The accolades will “celebrate those who capture the passion and emotion of the sport using the still image”.

They will run alongside Barclay-card’s other official awards: Manager and Player of the Year, The Golden Glove and Golden Boot. The first winners will be announced next month, at the end of the 2002/03 season.

The awards panel represents different elements of the industry including Eamonn McCabe, Sports Photogra-pher of the Year a record four times; Martin Tyler, Sky Sports commentator; Peter Reid, manager of Leeds United and former England player, and Barclaycard sponsorship director Nic Gault.

This year’s winner will also be added on to next year’s judging panel.
