Dmitry Muratov, the editor of Novaya Gazeta, the newspaper which employed investigative journalist Anna Politkovskaya before her assassination on 7 October 2006, has said he believes the Moscow authorities are carrying out the investigation into the murder in the correct manner.
A Moscow court on Monday released Magomed Dimelkhanov from custody saying that he did ‘not take an active part in the murder”, according to a prosecutor in the case. But the authorities then said that a Kyrgyz national, Rustam Makhmudov, had been placed on an internatonal wanted list in conection with the killing.
Muratov told the Interfax news agency: ‘Today, the investigation committee has publically named Rustan Makhmudov as the prime suspect in Anna’s murder and for us at the newspaper this is not news. We believe that the investigation is being carried out in the right way.”
He added: ‘We think that there will be other people who will be found as having been involved in the case.”
