The assistant chief constable of South Yorkshire, Stephen
Chamberlain, has accepted a £65,000 libel payout in the High Court over
allegations that he was a “wife beater”.
Chamberlain sued over a piece in the Mail on Sunday in October 2003 headlined “Love-cheat police chief is a wife beater too”.
The court was told that the case had been settled and that the paper apologised for the allegations.
