Plans for revamp

By Press Gazette

Sky News is trying to keep ahead in the battle among 24hour news channels, with plans to revamp the channel with a new set, writes Wale Azeez.

It is understood Sky News executives went to New York at the beginning of the month to shop for ideas for a set for the service, which is likely to relaunch next year.

The channel is getting its 24-hour news service in shape to continue competing with BBC News 24 and the ITV News Channel, as it turns its attention to the five-year contract to supply bulletins to Five News from January.

A Sky News insider told Press Gazette that it was time the channel had a new look as it had been using its existing set “for a few years now”.

The move comes after recent revamps by the ITV News Channel and BBC News 24.

The ITV News Channel received a “seven figure” cash injection from Granada and Carlton last December to “change its whole look”. The move coincided with BBC News 24’s overhaul, which was overseen by former BBC Ten O’Clock News editor Mark Popescu.
