Harry Wingate, former chief photo-grapher of the South Yorkshire Times Series, has died, aged 73, after a long illness.
Wingate was born in Islington and served for seven years in the Fleet Air Arm, including service in the Far East during the Korean War.
Much of his service was on HMS Newcastle where he was chief photographer.
On leaving the Fleet Air Arm, he was appointed chief photographer of the South Yorkshire Times and worked for the company for around 40 years before taking early retirement.
He leaves a widow, Gwen, to whom he was married for 52 years, and three sons, Barry, John and Clive.
