Perry leaves NoW for news editor’s role with Heat

By Press Gazette

Heat has hired Hannah Perry, features reporter on the News of the World, as its news editor.

Perry joined the News of the World in 2001 and worked on Rav Singh’s showbiz column before becoming a features reporter. During that time, she made headlines by exposing the Darren Day and Suzanne Shaw affair and revealing that media mogul Chris Evans had an illegitimate daughter.

Previously, Perry worked for news agencies such as WENN. At Heat, she will replace former news editor Polly Hudson, who left last month to go freelance.

Commenting on her new role, Perry said: “I’m looking forward to breaking stories for Heat. At the News of the World you don’t get your name in the paper unless you go out and really break stories and I’m hoping to bring some of that to the magazine.”

Heat editor Mark Frith said Perry’s newspaper and news agency background would be of “immense value”.

Her appointment follows the promotion of Jo Carnegie from deputy features editor to features editor, replacing Michelle Davies, who left to work on Heat in South Africa before returning to Emap to be a contributing editor on Closer.
