Paper wins in court again

By Press Gazette

By Sarah Lagan

The Cambridge Evening News has overturned its second section 39 order in three weeks.

The paper was covering the case of 16-year-old convicted in a drugs conspiracy at Cambridge Crown Court.

Junior
Kelenda assisted a 19-year-old dealer on a city council estate and the
judge said the youth was dishing out crack cocaine and heroin as if he
was operating as a pizza delivery service.

Editor Murray Morse
cited the public interest and deterrent issues, arguing the public had
a right to know the identity of the boy.

Morse said: “The judge
rightly recognised that even though Kelenda was just 16, he was heavily
involved in pushing crack cocaine and heroin.”

Last month, the newspaper overturned a Section 39 order on a ninemonth- old baby in a child neglect case.
