Applause should ring out for the BBC's decision to allow Panorama to reclaim its rightful place in the primetime schedule. This jewel in the corporation's current affairs crown has suffered in the ratings battle since it was banished six years ago to the "graveyard" Sunday-night slot after the late news.
Yet it has consistently produced some of the most authoritative, compelling and important investigative TV documentaries.
It will now have to fight for every viewer in a highly competitive primetime schedule. But at last the BBC has realised — quite sensibly, with its charter up for renewal — that it's vital the public has the best chance possible to see the best of its public service broadcasting.
