NUJ to meet with Tories

It may come as a surprise to some hardened union activists, but NUJ general secretary Jeremy Dear is to meet with the Conservative Party next month to “establish a dialogue”.

Dear writes on his blog: “I don’t pretend there will be any agreement but it’s worth us knowing worth us knowing their thinking on the issues affecting members  and it’s important they know ours’.”

Former Labour MEP Richard Balfe has been appointed the Tories’ trade union envoy and is meeting several unions at the moment.
