NUJ magazine saves cash with online-only issue

By Press Gazette

The next issue of NUJ magazine The Journalist magazine is to appear only as a PDF on its website as part of a review of its online and print operations and to save costs.

The move taken by the union’s national executive is an experiment to gauge readers’ reaction to an online issue ahead of this year’s annual delegates’ meeting where the future of the Journalist will be debated.

Each year the Journalist costs £200,000 to produce and some 60 per cent of that cost goes on posting and packaging so going online only would save the union at least £120,000.
The next issue can be seen at www.nuj.org.uk from 17 March. Journalists can email comments about receiving it in a PDF format to journalist@nuj.org.uk
