Northcliffe West Country division changes its name

Northcliffe-owned Westcountry Publications is to change its name to South West Media Group to reflect the growing prominence of online and mobile technology developments.

The group division publishes the Herald and the Western Morning News in Plymouth, the Express & Echo in Exeter and the South Devon Herald Express.

SWMG’s parent company changed its name from Northcliffe Newspapers to Northcliffe Media in January this year.

The company said while its newspaper division is to remain a key part of the business it plans to increase its focus on online and mobile technology.

SWMG managing director Duncan Currall said: “The name change reflects the nature of the business, which is not just newspapers but also our websites, which are attracting new, larger audiences.

“People want to get their news and information in different ways these days. The new technology enables us to offer different channels for getting this information and this means we are now interacting with far more people than we ever have done.”

The company also publishes weekly free newspapers and monthly magazines, and runs events and exhibitions across the region.
