News International has announced cover price rises on The Sun and The Sunday Times.
From next week the cover price of the weekday Sun will rise by 10p to 40p, which is still 5p cheaper than tabloid rival the Daily Mirror.
The Sunday Times is increasing its cover price by 30p to £2.50. Its last increase was in September 2010.
In a statement the company said: 'These price changes will enable News International, publisher of The Sun and The Sunday Times, to continue investing in quality journalism and promotional offers for its readers."
Chief marketing officer Katie Vanneck-Smith said: "We are committed to ensuring the longevity of our titles and these price rises reflect the quality of our newspapers.
'Both The Sun and The Sunday Times lead the way with campaigning and investigative journalism as well as great-value reader offers.
The retail margin of The Sun will be 23.2 per cent, meaning retailers receive an extra 2.32p per copy. The retail margin on The Sunday Times will be 21 per cent, giving retailers an extra 0.8p per copy.
The latest ABC figures show The Sun's year-on-year circulation dipped by per cent in May to 2,611,838 ; -8.26, while The Sunday Times fell 12 per cent to 924,312.
Yesterday News International's parent company News Corp confirmed it was considering splitting into two companies by separating its newspaper and publishing business from its entertainment assets.
