Before joining Construction News she was was deputy editor of Health Service Journal and Nursing Times and she has also been news editor at both Health Service Journal and Local Government Chronicle.

Edwards, who had edited Construction News since 2007, has left Emap to become general manager of mining, metals and fertilisers information business CRU.

Evans said: 'My immediate priority as editor will be to expand our digital offering on our main website cnplus.co.uk and our interactive data-based intelligence service cninsight.cnplus.co.uk so that we are first with all the intelligence, breaking news and opinion the industry wants."

She said that after a tough three years for the construction industry, "firms need and value a business magazine and website that help them find and win work".

She added: 'Construction News does this through exclusive news stories about the industry online and in print – which companies are shortlisted for which jobs, what individual companies are up to, what the government expects of the industry.

'Plus the magazine contains opinion, technical content, and a wealth of intelligence and data. It is a fascinating time to be editor of CN and a fantastic industry to write about and spend time with."
