NoSweat to appeal after losing NCTJ accreditation

Independent journalism training provider NoSweat is to appeal to qualifications watchdog Ofqual after losing its accreditation with the National Council for the Training of Journalists.

The NCTJ opted not to renew NoSweat's accreditation meaning that the body now accredits 67 courses at 38 training centres around the UK.

NoSweat has been training journalists since 1999 and has been accredited by the NCTJ since 2001. Two courses run by the NoSweat have lost their accreditation: the 44-week full-time course and a 24-week part-time one.

NoSweat will continue run its courses, and will continue to enter its students in the NCTJ exams.

Course director Steve Ward said: 'We don't agree with the decision and feel we should be given a chance to appeal. We are going to Ofqual.

'The NCTJ gave us reasons which we felt we had already answered."

The NCTJ said in a statement: "The NCTJ decided not to renew accreditation when it expired in July 2011 for full-time and part-time newspaper journalism courses at Nosweat. The directors agreed that these courses did not fully meet the NCTJ standard, aims and performance indicators.

"All NCTJ students currently on courses at Nosweat that were previously accredited will continue to be supported by the NCTJ until they complete their studies. Students currently on the magazine journalism courses which were not previously accredited by the NCTJ will also be supported."

The NCTJ announced on Friday that the following courses have been re-accredited for the next two years:
