Magazine ABCs: How the big consumer publishers fared

None of the UK's major consumer magazine publishers circulated more copies in the second half of last year than in the same period in 2007, ABC data has revealed.

According to the Periodical Publishers Association 1.103 billion magazines were circulated in the UK in 2008. This compares with 1.198 billion in 2007.

Here we look at 10 of the biggest publishing houses and the titles that fared the best (and worst) in the latest consumer magazine ABCs.

Total circulation down 8.5%

Biggest rise: Golf World, up 19.2 per cent to 35,787
Other increases: Arena and Empire

Biggest fall: Kerrang, down 32.1 per cent to 52,272.
Other declines: FHM, Heat, Zoo

BBC Worldwide
Total circulation down 4.3%

Biggest riser: Easy Cook, up 20.4 per cent to 88,692
Other increases: BBC Top Gear Magazine, Top of the Pops

Biggest fall: Doctor Who Adventures Magazine, down 47 per cent at 82,205 (it went from fortnightly to weekly)
Other declines: Toybox, Balamory, Amy Magazine, Teletubbies

Conde Nast
Total circulation down 1.2%

Biggest rise: Vanity Fair, up 1.8 per cent to 101,169
Other increases: GQ, Conde Nast Brides

Biggest fall: Easy Living, down 5.6 per cent to 185,115

Total circulation down 6.5%

Biggest rise: The Week - up 6.4 per cent to 154,512

Total circulation down 2.9%
