The University of Nottingham has challenged a journalist to 'embed'themselves in its Science, Medicine and Engineering faculty for six months to experience daily life in the world of intensive scientific research.
Director of media relations at the university, Jonathan Ray, said: 'They'll be telling complicated stories, working off-diary and to their own pace within cutting-edge research teams, and getting under the skin of complex science stories. They'll be challenged to sell these stories, not just to one grumpy news editor, but to thousands worldwide.
'As an incentive to editors to encourage their reporters to take up this suggestion, we'll of course pay their wages for half a year.
'Many journalists dabble with the notion of a different job, but don't want to make a permanent leap into corporate communications. This could be a valuable opportunity to see how it really feels to be the person writing, rather than rewriting, the news release."
