Jeremy Dear has been re-elected unopposed to serve a second five-year term as general secretary of the NUJ.
It is believed to be the first time in the union’s 100-year history that noone has wanted to stand against the general secretary for election.
Dear has helped push NUJ membership through the 40,000 mark and taken the the union’s finances into the black for the first time since the 1970s.
