NME editor Krissi Murison to join Sunday Times

By Andrew Pugh

The NME’s Krissi Murison is leaving the magazine after three years to join The Sunday Times magazine.

Murison became the first female deputy editor at NME in January 2007 after originally joining the title as a junior staff writer in 2003.

She left the music magazine in February 2009 for New York’s Nylon magazine before rejoining NME as editor in September after Conor McNicholas left to become editor of BBC’s Top Gear magazine.

Murison, who used to write the My Generation music column for the Sunday Times, is expected to join its magazine as features editor.

NME said an announcement on her successor will be made in due course.

NME publishing director Emily Hutchings said: ‘Everyone at NME is obviously sad to see a talent like Krissi go, but due to her great achievements while working as editor she leaves NME in great health and the brand is stronger than ever.

‘We have an immensely talented editorial team who will continue to push the brand forward and will carry on their success of creating first class content. We wish Krissi all the best in the future.’

Murison, who was named BSME’s new editor of the year in 2010, said: “My last three years at NME have been exhilarating, inspiring and completely unforgettable.

‘I am incredibly proud to have played a small part in the story of the world’s greatest music magazine and leave happy in the knowledge that the current NME team is amongst the most talented and passionate in its 60 year history.”

The most recent ABC figures for NME during the last six months of 2001 show print circulation fell 14 per cent to 27,650.
