Kate Nicholas, former editor-in-chief of Haymarket's PRWeek, has left the magazine to work for aid organisation World Vision UK. Nicholas joined PRWeek as features editor in 1996 and, as editor of the magazine, was responsible for taking PRWeek online in 1998. She relaunched the title in 2004 before taking on the associate publisher role.
Nicholas joins international development agency World Vision as associate director of communications. She worked in PR before joining PRWeek.
Nicholas said she decided to leave journalism after seeing the ad for the job at World Vision in her own publication.
She said: "I do miss journalism to some extent — I think once a journalist always a journalist. I'm going to be writing for Ethical Corporation magazine for their online vehicle, so I still will be writing to an extent.
"I've found that going from being an observer to one who affects change is quite a powerful thing. Of course, journalists affect change and guide the climate of public opinion — which is why I'll be working very closely with them."
