And Martin Buhagiar, who was group editor of Newsquest North London’s Times and Independent Series, has left after eight years. Buhagiar said on Twitter that it was his decision to leave, and that he had done so “when I heard editors were being reduced”.
Their roles have been taken on by Tim Jones, who is already group editor of the East London and West Essex series.
Various Newsquest articles announcing the departures of Wilson-Leary and Buhagiar appear to suggest that Jones will now be taking on additional responsibility for weekly titles in North London, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire.
According to Newsquest’s website, it has nine North London titles (Barnet and Potters Bar Times, Borehamwood Times, Ealing Times, Edgware and Mill Hill Times, Enfield Independent, Haringey Independent, Harrow Times, Hendon and Finchley Times and Hillingdon Times), two in East London (Waltham Forest Guardian and Wanstead and Woodford Guardian), one in West Essex (Epping Forest Guardian), four in Hertfordshire/North London (St Albans and Harpenden Review, Watford Free, Watford Observer and Welwyn and Hatfield Review) and two in Buckinghamshire (Bucks Free Press and South Bucks Star).
Press Gazette called Jones’s office to ask for confirmation on which titles he will now be editing but was told there would be no comment.
