News UK launches The Times of London Weekly international digital edition

By William Turvill

News UK has launched a new international digital edition featuring content from The Times and Sunday Times.

The Times of London Weekly will come out every Thursday and feature content from both titles.

The edition will be edited by Seth Jacobson, who was previously deputy digital editor of The Sunday Times. No new editorial staff have been taken on as part of the launch.

Customers will get a free one-month trial of the app and then it costs £2.99 a month after that.

The edition will feature British news, business and sports coverage as well as features, interviews and investigations. Press Gazette understands the edition will not feature any of its own original content but this may change in the future.

Times editor John Witherow said: "The Times of London has long been one of the most famous newspapers in the world, built on a reputation for trusted, accurate reporting, incisive commentary, witty columnists and feature writing with flair.

"Our new weekly app offers international readers the very best of British journalism, which regularly sets the agenda at home and abroad.”

Martin Ivens, editor of The Sunday Times, said: "The Sunday Times has broken three of the biggest global stories in recent memory, from the Lance Armstrong scandal to corruption in FIFA and blood doping in athletics. Our new international edition makes it easier than ever to read world class scoops like these first-hand, alongside the best writers and columnists in the UK."

The app will be available in 46 countries – not including the UK – and on both smartphone and tablet devices. News UK said it is currently available in the Apple iTunes app store and will be in Google Play stores at a later date.
