A new paid-for weekly newspaper has been launched for West Wiltshire as an edition of the Frome & Somerset Standard.
Published by Western Newspapers Limited, the Warminster & Westbury Standard will cover a circulation area around the same size as the Frome & Somerset Standard, which sells 8,000.
A team of two reporters, a photographer and three sub-editors have been recruited to the paper, which includes an average of 104 pages of news and analysis for 50p and has an initial print run of 5,000.
It is the third newspaper in the Somerset Standard and Guardian series, which also includes the Somerset Guardian.
Editor Joanna Broughton is local to the area and has worked for the publishing group for 11 years. She said: “It covers such a niche area and I believe this is its strength. There are other newspapers that cover the wider area but they do not include the village details.” Readers have been asked to contact the newspaper and tell its reporters what they would like to see in its pages.
