Exclusive by Jon Slattery
A new quality independent weekly covering the North-West region of the UK is being planned for a spring launch.
It
will be edited by former Guardian journalist Bob Waterhouse, who
launched the quality broadsheet North West Times in Manchester in 1988
and the South Manchester Reporter.
The new paper will be based in
Manchester, editorially-led and employ 14 journalists who would be paid
well above average regional rates for journalists.
Managing
director is Nick Jaspan who ran Newsco, publisher of the regional
Insider magazine, and head of sales is Chris Candish, ex-Trinity
Mirror.
The weekly plans to circulate from Carlisle down to
North Staffs, and between the Welsh borders and High Peak area of
Derbyshire. It will circulate in Manchester and Liverpool and also hopes to pick up sales in North Wales. It is aiming
for an upmarket A-B readership.
Exclusive interview with Waterhouse in this week’s Press Gazette.
