New era for your monthly Press Gazette

By Press Gazette

As you may already have read online, Press Gazette is going monthly. Seemingly a dramatic announcement, but is it?

In truth we are probably a little late in adopting a proper multiplatform approach where breaking news, blogs, discussion strands and all the other attributes of a website sit alongside a print partner which needs to take the time and have the space to develop, explain, comment and analyse the major themes of our profession.

The new look Press Gazette

But at more than 100,000 visitors a month our website is already performing better than many other professional sites. And it’s now time to provide a print partner which complements rather than competes.

The new A4 Press Gazette will be 64 pages – double the size of the weekly. It has been expertly redesigned for the modern journalist by Kieran Gardner, and has the breadth to provide critical analysis about our industry, for individuals and for business, as it evolves in these challenging times.

We will be much more of a forum for debate and discussion about our world and, working with the website, will feed that debate and discussion in a two-way relationship with its audience.

In the first issue we have an in-depth feature on potential new models for breathing life back into the newspaper industry, and a major and exclusive interview with Trinity Mirror chief Sly Bailey.

How PA Media is helping newspapers make the digital transition

We take a deep and practical look at mobile communications and the way they are transforming our journalism, run spreads on top magazine design work and photography, and introduce a major new freelance section.

We will be running major news features on consumer and B2B magazines, and on broadcast, digital and the newspaper industry.

The Knowledge – our popular three-page section on practical skills, how-to articles and tips for making a living in this difficult profession – leads our new emphasis on training and student issues. We also have must-read financial writer Peter Kirwan on the industry’s money issues and a new section on journalists’ gadgets.

And, of course, favourite columns such as Grey Cardigan and Axegrinder lead a host of new columnists, which include ITV’s Daisy McAndrew and entertainment blogger and Popbitch editor Camilla Wright.

The new monthly Press Gazette will only be available via subscription from 28 August. Every subscriber will receive a personalised letter detailing the new offer – these went out first class post on Wednesday.

Newsstand readers of Press Gazette should contact Tower House for details of how they can subscribe on 01858 438872.
