A new monthly magazine is aiming to take advantage of the UK’s new found passion for cycling.
Cyclist, which launches on Wednesday 19 September, will have a cover price of £5 and an initial planned circulation of 20,000.
The Dennis Publishing title will have an editorial team of four, with Pete Muir, former editorial director of Men’s Fitness, as editor.
‘We’ve been planning this for many years but the time never seemed to be right,’he said.
‘Recently, not only has cycling as a sport been growing enormously – I think anyone can see that – but the people interested in it have been changing also.”
Cyclist will also release an enhanced iPad version of the first issue, and will have a marketing website, with a view to launching it as a content-based site in the future.
The title, according to Muir, will attempt to appeal to cyclists with a developed interest in the sport.
‘More people are getting into it who may have in the past been interested in golf,’he said.
‘It appeals to guys with money and guys who are competitive. It is that end of the market that we are aiming at.”
