The Birmingham Mail has relaunched its website to include more unique material, video, blogs and interactive content.
Led by Trinity Mirror‘s senior multimedia editor Ross Hawkes, the renamed www.birminghammail.net includes a variety of blogs from football reporters covering Aston Villa, Albion and the Wolves to a reporter who is blogging about her first pregnancy.
A new digital team identifies content for the web at three news conferences per day.
Some journalists on the paper have recently been given video training and will upload new videos daily.
Birmingham Mail editor Steve Dyson said: “We want birminghammail.net to be the only site anyone has to visit to find out everything they need to know about news, sport, health, education and entertainment in the West Midlands.
“On top of this, users will also be able to interact with that content, posting their own opinions, sending in pictures and videos.
“The result will be a new, vibrant community online, extending the Birmingham Mail brand further than ever before.”
Staff are being given ongoing multimedia training, some have undergone a week-long video course and others have been given training in blogging.
The relaunch of the site marks the first stage of Trinity’s new digital strategy for the Midlands and is the latest stage in the publisher’s plan to overhaul its market-leading titles across the country.
