The International Building Press is launching a new awards scheme – the Magazine of the Year Awards.
Running alongside the IBP Annual Journalism Awards, the new awards seek to recognise and reward high standards of writing and design throughout in-house publications and membership magazines serving the architectural, building and property sectors.
Whether entries are produced by a corporate affairs manager, public relations officer or with the assistance of freelance journalists, entries can be made through the IBP website or in hard copy from next month.
A panel of judges is being assembled and includes Ryan Moore, director of the Architectural Foundation, and writer and critic Stephen Bailey.
Anyone entering the awards automatically becomes an IBP member.
As part of a separate initiative, the IBP is also setting up a freelance online register for specialised writers in the sectors.
IBP chief executive Gerald Bowey said: “There is very much a black hole in terms of how people find specialised journalists. It’s a badly needed service in our sector and will make everyone’s lives a lot easier.” The freelance directory will be available from mid-April and can be accessed via the IBP website at www.ibp.org.uk.
