News of the World Sunday magazine has made a number of key appointments ahead of a major relaunched due to be unveiled early in the New Year.
Former creative director at Happy Mark Hayman has been appointed creative director.
Handbag.com’s fashion director Tracey Lea Sayer to the same position at the News of the World magazine, a move which could indicate a strong online element.
Lea Sayer has previously worked on the Daily Telegraph, Evening Standard and Daily Mirror and was also fashion director on Northern and Shell’s short-lived Happy magazine.
Appleyard said Lea Sayer: ‘brings with her immense creative flair and sharp commercial acumen, and will lead our fashion team to an exciting new level both in print and online.”
As well as undergoing a major relaunch the magazine is to be renamed Fabulous.
It will be headed up by editorial director Jane Johnson, who launched Emap’s Closer, and editor Mandy Appleyard, who was on the launch teams of Emap’s Closer, Grazia and First. Sally Eyden former assistant features editor at The Mirror has been appointed deputy editor and the title this week appointed.
A spokeswoman said: “The new News of the World magazine will have energy, pace and a glamorous new designâ€¦The new magazine will be much more relevant to a magazine-savvy readership.”
â€¢ The News of the World has appointed its deputy sports editor to the role of digital sports editor. Tim Allen joined the paper in 1989 as sports sub editor. News of the World senior associate editor, Gary Thompson said: “Tim’s talent and wealth of experience will be huge assets to the News of the World’s excellent digital team.”
