Sunday Times journalist Dan Cairns has been named top record reviewer of the year by the website Record of the Day.

The Record of the Day Awards for Music and PR
were held earlier this week and are believed to be the first such event
to honour music writers and PR professionals.

Paul Scaife, founder of the music industry
website, said: “There are dozens of music industry award ceremonies but
none that focus specifically on this area. We felt that it was
important to recognize the work of the journalists and PR’s who play
such an important part in bringing music to a wider audience.”

The Guardian’s Dave Simpson was made live review
Writer of The Year and fellow Guardian journalist Owen Gibson was named
Best Music Business Writer. The Best Music Coverage in a National
Newspaper award went to The Independent’s Friday Arts and Music review
section.

Magazines also received recognition with Time Out
receiving the Best Music Coverage in a Non-Music Publication, NME’s
Krissi Murison received the Breaking Music: Writer of The Year and
Clash was named Music Magazine of The Year.
