The Ulster Defence Association’s threat on the life of Jim McDowell, Northern Ireland editor of the Dublin-based Sunday World, is to be raised in the House of Commons.
Labour backbencher Harry Barnes and former Tory minister in Northern Ireland, Peter Bottomley, will jointly table a motion noting that UDA gangs have been intimidating newsagents and delivery van drivers into not selling or delivering the Sunday World.
In their Commons motion, the two MPs note that one staff member of the Sunday World has had to be relocated after a recent gun attack on his home and they recall the murder of journalist Martin O’Hagan by loyalist gunmen two years ago.
