The Daily Mirror today launched a new version of its website tailor-made for mobile phones.
Mirror Mobile allows readers to choose which news categories they wish to view on Mirror Mobile’s homepage, as well as opting for live sport updates, astrology predictions and weather reports.
Daily Mirror editor Richard Wallace said: ‘ We’re giving our users the news they want, when they want it and in the format of their choice.’
Trinity Mirror said that Mirror Mobile is the first in a roll-out of 13 mobile websites for the publisher’s national and regional titles, and the company has partnered with Bluestar Mobile and Nokia in developing these sites.
Head of Trinity Mirror Interactive and Mobile Rick Gleave said: ‘The launch of Mirror Mobile takes the Mirror into new territory with new users and new audiences for advertisers.
‘The development of these platforms will give users instant access to national and local news, information and advertising on their mobile phone.
‘Each of these brands will have a print title, a companion website and a mobile site, which is further proof that we are a growing multiplatform media business.”
The launch of Mirror Mobile is sponsored by consumer financial service Mortgage Monitor and the sporting updates, Live Scores Match Tracker, is sponsored by Sportingbet.
In March 2007 The News of the World claimed a “world first” when it made its first edition a mobile phone version of the paper, available at 10pm on Saturday night.
The Daily Mirror’s rival The Sun also offers mobile servies, including news, horoscopes, football video goals and page 3 glamour model downloads.
