Journalists on the Manchester Evening News have requested a meeting with the Scott Trust, the Guardian Media Group’s ultimate owner, to discuss this week’s “savage” job cuts announcements.
GMG announced 150 job cuts at MEN Media – which includes the Manchester daily and 22 weeklies – and warned that compulsory redundancies were “unavoidable”.
In a letter to GMG Regional Media chief Mark Dodson, MEN mother of chapel Judy Gordon said compulsory cuts were “unpalatable at a time when the organisation is still making a profit”.
“It is clear that these executive decisions have been demanded by the GMG board and sanctioned by the Scott Trust,” she wrote.
“We request that Dame Liz Forgan and her fellow trustees come to Manchester as soon as possible to speak to us.”
