Mag ABCs: Top 100 paid-fors decline by 4.1 per cent

By Dominic Ponsford

Consumer magazine circulation figures for the second half of 2010 suggest that the UK market for print consumer magazines is still in decline overall.

But a significant number of titles are still managing to grow sales year on year, according to figures released by ABC.

Looking at the top 100 actively purchased titles (so not including the big customer magazines) – some 38 titles grew their sales year on year (the same number as in the first half of 2010).

Overall, the UK's top 100 purchased magazine titles had an average per-issue total circulation of 28,844,482 – which was a 4.1 per cent decline year on year.

This snapshot of the top-sellers suggests that the market for buying print magazines in the consumer sector is continuing to decline, albeit at a slower rate than national and regional newspapers.

There was no change at the top of the list, where listings weekly TV Choice increased its lead over What's On TV and the Radio Times as it increased sales by 4.6 per cent to 1,362,364 copies.
