Mac Keene, features editor of the Daily Mail in the Seventies and Eighties, has died at the age of 71.
Mac, who was the founder editor of Femail, joined the Mail from the Daily Sketch when the newspapers merged under the editorship of Sir David English in 1971.
He remained a key figure in the Mail’s features operations until his retirement as executive editor (leisure and travel) in 1992.
Mac was a great skiing enthusiast and won awards as ski editor of the Mail in 1991.
He left Fleet Street to spend his retirement in north Devon with his wife, Margaret. He leaves three sons, one daughter and eight grandchildren.
A private cremation for family and close friends will take place on Friday 23 January. A service for anyone who would like to attend will follow at 3pm at St Peter and St Mary Magdalene, High Street, Barnstaple, Devon.
No flowers, but donations can be made to Barnstaple Stroke Support Group (affiliated with the Stroke Association). Cheques should be made payable to Barnstaple Stroke Support Group and sent to 14 Sticklepath Hill, Barnstaple, Devon EX31 2BS.
