Press Gazette’s search is on for the best student journalists of the year. The Student Journalism Awards, now in their third year, are open for entries in nine categories for students and trainees on recognised journalism courses across the UK. This year’s event is produced in association with the National Lottery and supported by BMI.
The courses they are following can be at any level of academic qualification – undergraduate, postgraduate, HND, GNVQ, private diploma – as long as they are specifically designed for journalists. They might be anything from a three-year course to an intensive nine-week programme of study.
The categories are: news writer; feature writer; scoop; interviewer; online journalist; radio journalist; television journalist; photographer; and student team of the year. An overall student journalist of the year will be chosen from the winners of the individual categories. The judges are editors and senior journalists drawn from all disciplines – national newspapers, regional newspapers, consumer magazines, business magazines, television and radio.
Each winner will receive a prize of £500, which will be presented at a ceremony at The Brewery in Chiswell Street, London, at the end of June. The closing date for entries is Friday, 21 May.
Entry forms will be published in next week’s issue and will also be available at www.pressgazette.co.uk.
