‘Living legend’ former Australian editor Frank Devine has died

By Dominic wireposts

Sad news from Australia where I have just heard that Frank Devine has died.

David Banks devoted much of his column in this month’s Press Gazette to paying tribute to the 78-year-old former editor of the Chicago Sun-Times, New York Post and The Australian.

Banksy said he was determined to “write this tribute to a living legend in the present tense, not the past”. And he just made it.

After reading Banksy’s piece, Devine emailed back:

Banksy,

I knew I would have to do something extreme to get a good word out of you but I didn’t expect so many and such good ones.

Frank
