Ofcom has proposed measures to simplify the process of renewing regional television licences in the wake of the Granada-Carlton merger, writes Wale Azeez.
It has suggested that the level of information required from broadcasters during their licence reviews could be altered to make the system less complicated.
It believed the changes could bring substantial savings to the newly formed ITV, which owns 12 of the 16 licences.
The changes could boost ITV’s ability to carry out its public service broadcasting duties, which it has warned in the past was being curtailed by the current cost of licence renewal.
