Archant has extended its Let’s Talk! portfolio by launching a magazine for Essex, writes Ruth Addicott.
The first issue features an exclusive interview with the parents of Essex-born celebrity chef Jamie Oliver. Editor Anne Gould said the couple had turned down previous requests from national magazines and newspapers, forwarding all calls to Oliver’s press office. But when Let’s Talk! sent copies of its Suffolk edition to their home in Essex and asked for an interview, they rang back in person and said yes.
“It’s the first time Sally and Trevor, publicans of The Cricketers in Clavering, Essex, have ever spoken to the press at length and they’ve also given us access to family pictures of Jamie as a child,” she said.
“They liked our honest approach and said they would feel comfortable appearing in our magazine. It’s a terrific compliment to Let’s Talk! Suffolk.”
Chris Opperman, a former presenter on the BBC World Service and BBC Radio Suffolk, has been appointed chief writer for the Essex edition. He has previously written for Let’s Talk! Suffolk.
