News International executive chairman Les Hinton has "topped out" the new journalists' charity care home. The company has made a "seriously significant donation" (unspecified by NI request), said charity council chairman Nicholas Jones, which encouraged other groups to give too.
Hinton climbed to the rooftop of the £3 million Dorking home to lay a Welsh slate.
Formerly called Sandy Cross, the new building will be ready for occupation by 22 elderly journalists or their dependents by spring 2007.
