Kim Fletcher, the former editorial director at the Telegraph Group and one-time editor of the Independent on Sunday, was waxing lyrical to Jenni Murray on Radio 4 last Sunday about his early days in journalism.
What attracted you to journalism, she asked?
Fletcher replied: "It was that seedy kind of glamour. It was the reality of our own grubby lives. I once went into the Liverpool Press Club: it was seedy, grubby, sweaty and smelly. Everything I wanted."
Ah, so now we know.
