Fears are growing for Essex County Newspapers journalist Gavin
Nightingale who has not been seen since 11 February, when he was
reported missing on Ben Nevis.
An RAF helicopter and a team of 60
rescue workers began searching for the journalist, who is an
experienced climber, on 13 February until they had to postpone the
operation due to the risk of an avalanche. Mountain rescue team deputy
leader John Stevenson said the fact he had been out on the Ben for days
meant things were looking bleak.
Nightingale, 39, is in charge of subediting on the Colchester Evening Gazette ‘s weekly sister papers in north and mid Essex.
Irene Kettle, Essex County Newspapers’
editor-in-chief, said: “Our thoughts are with Gavin’s family.”
