The Press Association has appointed Clare Johnston to the new role of editorial director, Scotland and Ireland.
Based in Edinburgh, Johnston will be responsible for developing new business opportunities across all media platforms.
These
include commercial services such as contract publishing, digital
services and information for clients in the political, corporate and
government arenas.
Johnston joined PA in 1997 as a Teletext
writer in Scotland after completing a postgraduate diploma in
journalism at Cardiff University. She worked as production editor and
Scottish editor before moving to PA’s London office as Teletext
assistant editor.
She helped set up PA’s contract publishing
department at the operations centre in Howden, East Yorkshire. In 2003
she moved back to her native Scotland as head of business development
and was also instrumental in creating the Community Newswire service
for voluntary groups.
She has just returned to work after six months maternity leave.
Tony
Watson, editorial director at PA, said: “Clare’s first-class knowledge
of the agency and its customer base will be a fantastic asset to the
Press Association of Ireland and The Scottish Press Association. Her
appointment is a key step in the expansion of our dedicated services
for these countries.”
