Fighting for quality news media in the digital age.

Johnston Press launches inews.co.uk website for i

By Dominic Ponsford

The i newspaper has launched a new website called inews.co.uk.
The site has gone live in the week that Johnston Press completed the £24m purchase of i from Evgeny Lebedev.
The i100 website, which was launched using the i logo in 2014, remains attached to The Independent website and has been renamed Indy100.
The inews.co.uk site promises a "concise and quality round-up of the key need-to-know stories across Britain".
The home page offers readers a "News Matrix" which shows the day’s headlines at a glance.
Stories are categorised into: Essentials, Explainers and lighter stories called Distractions.
Digital news editor Felicity Morse will lead the site with what Johnston Press has described in its press release an "editorial first ethos". Press Gazette has asked Johnston Press if they can elaborate on what this means.
i editor Oly Duff has written a piece introducing the new site and said: "We’re taking the values that have made i such a success in print to shape inews.co.uk. We take real pride in concise, quality journalism, as well as intelligent analysis, convenience for our readers, being free from political party bias, and having a conversation with our readers, and the team has done a fantastic job in bringing that to life with the website.”
Johnston Press chief digital and product officer Jeff Moriarty said: "We believe that with so much content and so many choices, readers will appreciate a mobile-optimised digital product that provides a concise, quality and curated view of what’s happening across Britain. Like the I newspaper, inews.co.uk will provide a mix of content that informs and entertains, sourced from the I newsroom and from our 900 journalists across the UK in a modern, mobile format.”
