The ITV News journalist who broke the news of Charles Kennedy’s resignation has been given the new role of economics editor.
In what is unlikely to be a dull patch in the current climate, former chief political correspondent Daisy McAndrew will cover all the business and economics stories for ITV News’s bulletins, focusing on the newly relaunched News at Ten.
Her Charles Kennedy revelation won ITV News the scoop of the year at the RTS awards in 2006
ITV News editor-in-chief David Mannion said: “The credit crunch, inflation and the rising cost of living has pushed economics to the front of the news agenda and it will remain there some time to come.
“Daisy is a top class journalist who will bring great credibility and authority to our coverage of the economy.”
Her appointment also means that both the BBC and ITV now have a female economics editor. Stephanie Flanders took up the BBC role in April when Evan Davis moved to the Today programme.
