The 180 journalists of the Irish Examiner and Cork’s Evening Echo newspapers have called off strike action voted for in the run-up to Christmas in support of a pay increase.
Following the intervention of an outside body, the Labour Relations Commission, management and the NUJ accepted proposals to end the pay dispute.
The journalists will get a pay rise of 3 per cent backdated to January 2003 and annual increases of 4 per cent for the next two years.
There will be talks over the next three months aimed at bringing a number of lower-paid journalists into line with their better-paid colleagues.
