Ireland on Sunday has asked ABC to conduct a “comprehensive investigation” of Independent Newspapers’ bulk sales.
In a full-page advertisement in the Sunday Business Post, IoS referred to the latest figures for the Sunday Independent. It said: “Officially, they sold just 2 per cent less between July and December 2002 than during the same period the previous year. However, that figure actually includes up to an amazing 61,070 bulk sales a week.
“The headline circulation figure also includes an utterly unknown number of copies they sold in Britain. So how many papers does the Sunday Independent actually sell here in Ireland? Sorry, but your guess is as good as ours.”
